Semtech’s LoRa Technology Integrated in Lemonbeat’s Utility Metering Solution
Market-ready meters offer dual radio communication for increased accuracy
CAMARILLO, Calif., Dec. 20, 2018 – Semtech Corporation (Nasdaq: SMTC), a leading supplier of high performance analog and mixed-signal semiconductors and advanced algorithms, announced that Lemonbeat, an Internet of Things (IoT) solution provider, has integrated Semtech’s LoRa® devices and wireless radio frequency technology (LoRa Technology) into its smart metering solutions for easier reading and collection of utility usage.
“During the development of our lean metering solution, we quickly realized that an innovative combination of our own high-bandwidth radio protocol with LoRa Technology’s long range capabilities would be very useful and offer a clear added value," said Oliver van der Mond, CEO of Lemonbeat GmbH. "We combined the best of both worlds using Semtech’s LoRa Technology as the logical choice. With Semtech, we have found a leading provider who was able to meet our requirements.”
Lemonbeat’s LoRa-connected smart meters work by utilizing embedded LoRa-based IoT technology to connect the meter to their own purpose-built receiver units. Using this connectivity, meters send data through multiple floors in bigger buildings or all the way into the street, where network operators can conveniently collect the data without having to enter the building. Using the meters’ other radio frequency, Lemonbeat Radio, meters provide customers accurate data on their energy consumption. With a third-party application, individuals can view and analyze this data, and change their habits accordingly.
“Lemonbeat’s solutions offer a compelling mix of accurate and efficient energy monitoring, with an ease in reading for the utility provider,” said Vivek Mohan, Director of IoT in Semtech’s Wireless and Sensing Products Group. “These meters are reflective of an industry trend toward ‘lean metering,’ in which cost-effective receiver units provide highly detailed data to consumers and providers alike. Semtech’s LoRa Technology, with its proven, flexible capabilities, is the ideal platform for IoT solutions.”

Dortmund-based Lemonbeat GmbH was founded in October 2015 as a 100% subsidiary of innogy SE - one of the largest utility company in Europe. Our key offering is the IoT Communication Backbone, which is a cross-industry solution helping close the gap between physical products and software applications. As a standardized product, it replaces the in-house development of an individual communication infrastructure and thus saves around 70% of the costs commonly involved in creating and maintaining an IoT application. Every IoT application can be realized with the Lemonbeat technology. Further information can be found at www.lemonbeat.com
